Perplexity is a real-time AI search engine — it retrieves live web results for every query rather than relying on pre-trained knowledge. This makes Perplexity the most immediately responsive platform to publish on: a well-optimized article can appear in Perplexity citations within days of publishing, compared to weeks for ChatGPT.

How Perplexity selects content to cite

• •Real-time relevance — Perplexity performs a live search for every query and selects the most relevant indexed pages. Google Search Console indexing is a prerequisite.
• •Answer-first format — Perplexity extracts 1–3 sentence answers to display above its source list. Content with a direct answer in the first paragraph is consistently cited over content that buries the answer.
• •Source credibility — Perplexity shows source URLs directly to users, who can see and click them. Pages on recognizable domains with clear authorship are clicked more, reinforcing their citation ranking.
